World Vision International

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Founded in 1950, it is an independent organisation that is not formally affiliated with any government, denomination, foundation or corporation, though it maintains positive working relationships with all of these.

World Vision works in three areas:

  • short-term emergency relief, such as providing food, shelter and medical care to victims of natural or man-made disasters;
  • long-term sustainable community development focusing on helping communities meet the needs its members identify, like clean water, education, health care, agricultural improvements and sanitation; and
  • working with policymakers and the public at the national, regional and global level to build awareness around poverty and to address the unjust systems that help perpetuate it.

All of World Vision’s work focuses on sustaining the well-being of children, especially the most vulnerable. The organization works with families, communities, and partners to ensure that children enjoy good health, are educated for life, experience the love of God and their neighbours, and are cared for, protected, and participating.
