International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)
The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) is an independent policy research institute (think tank) whose stated mission is to "build a fairer, more sustainable world, using evidence, action and influence in partnership with others.” IIED promotes sustainable development to improve livelihoods and protect the environments on which these livelihoods are built. IIED specialises in linking local priorities to global challenges.
Based in London, IIED works in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific, with some of the world’s most vulnerable people in order to strengthen their voice in the decision-making arenas that affect them — from village councils to international conventions.
The institute's work is currently divided into five main areas: natural resources; climate change; human settlements; sustainable markets; and governance.
