Asia Pacific Learning Exchange: Strengthening Land Tenure Security for Urban Poverty Reduction in Asia Pacific

The GLTN’s Urban CSO Cluster of UN-Habitat and Habitat for Humanity’s Solid Ground campaign are convening a regional learning, titled “Strengthening Land Tenure Security for the Urban Poverty Reduction in Asia Pacific,” which will take place November 7-8 in Manila, Philippines. If you or your organization are working on land or tenure issues in the region we encourage you to join us! Please register online and our team will be in touch soon. The learning exchange will bring together GLTN Partners and Urban CSO Cluster members, Solid Ground partners, Regional Land Tenure Initiative members and other key organizations in Asia Pacific working on land tenure security and urban poverty reduction. Together we will strengthen our collective efforts to address land issues and reduce urban poverty by learning from each other’s experiences, challenges and solutions in the region. We will also work towards:
  • Building a common understanding around the range of land tenure options and ways to strengthen security of tenure in urban areas in Asia and the Pacific from the civil society point of view
  • Sharing information, experience and perspectives on meeting land-related challenges, including piloting and application of a selection of innovative land tools
  • Discussing practical challenges, tactics and lessons learnt from the diverse experience of GLTN’s partners in the urban cluster
  • Identifying key aspects in which the GLTN secretariat and partners can support and collaborate with each other at the local, national and regional
Participating organizations will have the opportunity to discuss the GLTN’s report, “Land Tenure in Asia and the Pacific: Challenges, Opportunities and Way Forward,” and to share how they apply the GLTN’s principles, approaches and tools in their work. The learning exchange will also be an opportunity for members of the GLTN’s Urban CSO cluster agree on next steps for the cluster in the region. The urban CSO cluster includes Action Aid, ACHR, Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development, Habitat International Coalition, Huairou Commission, International Land Coalition, Namati, Norwegian Refugee Council, Oxfam International, Protimos and Slum Dwellers International. Addressing urban land and poverty issues is more critical now than ever before. In 2018, for the first time, more people in the Asia-Pacific region will be living in cities than in rural areas. We hope you will join us in Manila, where together we will work towards change.
