Online Resource: EU-UN Partnership focus on Land, Natural Resources and Conflict website
The global EU-UN Partnership, established in 2008, employs a multi-agency approach, bringing together UN agencies and departments (DESA, DPA, PBSO, UN-Habitat, IOM, UNDP, and UNEP) and the EU's Instrument for Stability (IfS) to develop tools to support countries to prevent land and natural resources from contributing to the outbreak or continuation of violent conflict. The EU-UN Partnership is managed by the United Nations Interagency Framework Team for Preventive Action (FT), hosted by UNDP's Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR).
The EU-UN Partnership wishes to announce the availability of guidance and online training on land, natural resources and conflict via a new website, posted on UN.org (http://www.un.org/en/land-natural-resources-conflict). The website is available in English, French and Spanish.
The initiative to produce these guidance and online training materials has been undertaken jointly by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) in the recognition that the challenges associated with preventing, managing and resolving natural resource-induced conflicts are key factors for global peace, security, and development in the 21st century. Global trends such as demographic changes, increasing consumption, environmental degradation and climate change, are placing significant and potentially unsustainable pressures on the availability and usability of natural resources such as land, water and ecosystems.
